This is my favorite game,
The game of Hide and Seek.
Like children in the madhouse,
The dark twisting them to keep.

I can settle in the dust,
Sink beneath the rugs.
I can hide within the light,
For their eyes will just not see.

And they flock to me again,
Always the same tune.
They seek to shelter underneath
The breath of my despair.

With every gasp for air
I feed them with my sting,
Venom sweet and potent
Killing them with care.

Because their eyes are glazed with prophecy,
With words of hope and love.
Of slander they cannot conceive,
As I whisper in their ears.

Surely their weapon could stop
Even the astounding I.
But they don't use it as a defense,
When I take such care to hide.

Slowly I will blacken
The hearts and souls of all
Who take within their mentality
The oxygen I taint.

And they haven't got a clue.
I can't help but get the feeling their is a bug in the room where my Bible study meets. A demon the sleeps in the carpeting or something, that exudes a toxic film of lackadaisical despair. Because something so subtle, so silent, so microscopic, is slowly weeding into each of us--I can only barely see it. Just small, tiny, inconsequential things that should go unnoticed, but have been standing out to me.

It got me thinking--we don't pray for safety when things go right. We don't ask for God to ward of spiritual wrong doers when we can't see the big picture. We assume everything is dandy. So that one girl just annoys me a bit, so she is having trouble understanding the message, so he falls asleep every time, whatever. There aren't any big scandals, no one is gossiping or secretly doing drugs or lusting or being outright rude. The 'big' sins aren't around, so we must be good.

But we aren't. I can just tell, something dark and evil is slowly, very slowly, killing off our roots. I wrote this poem from the point of view of that demon, in hopes to get you thinking. There are sinister beasts that seek to drag you away from God. Have you been praying enough? You're ALWAYS under attack. Be careful.
